Mündung Südliche Düssel

The Southern Düssel river flows into the Rhine through a wide, unassuming concrete mouth in the Carlstadt district. For centuries, this small tributary powered mills and served local industries before being buried underground by the city's nineteenth-century urban expansion. In the nineteen-eighties, city planners reopened this final stretch to the surface to improve water quality and create a rare public connection between the city grid and the river. It remains a quiet, functional point where the city's hidden waters finally reach the Rhine.
