Rheinufer, alter Anlegeplatz

The stone steps leading down to the water at the Rheinufer in Carlstadt mark the city’s oldest harbor quay. Long before the modern promenade, this spot served as the primary arrival point for traders bringing wine, spices, and grain into Düsseldorf. In seventeen ninety-four, French revolutionary troops landed their artillery right here, eventually leading to the city's surrender. Today, these weathered blocks offer a direct link to the river trade that defined the city’s wealth for centuries before the industrial age took hold.
