Tritonenbrunnen

monument

The Tritonenbrunnen features three bronze sea creatures supporting a large basin, where water cascades down toward the base. Sculptor Fritz Coubillier designed this monument in nineteen oh nine to mark the transition of the site from a former fortification to a public space. During the Second World War, the bronze figures were removed to be melted down for military production, but they survived in a storage yard. Workmen returned the statues to their original stone basin in nineteen forty-eight, restoring the fountain.
