Kodály körönd

The circular plaza at Kodály körönd features four identical Renaissance-style palaces that frame the intersection like the petals of a flower. In the nineteenth century, city planners designed this intersection as an elegant, star-shaped anchor for the grand Andrassy Avenue. Baron Zsigmond Kemény lived in the building on the corner of Szinyei Merse Street, while composer Zoltán Kodály occupied the ground floor apartment in another palace for over twenty years, eventually giving the square its name and its quiet, scholarly reputation.
