Mural "Angel Sanz Briz" by Okuda

historic

The mural of Angel Sanz Briz features a geometric, multicolored face fractured into bold shapes that dominate the facade of the building. Sanz Briz was a Spanish diplomat stationed in Budapest during the second world war. He saved thousands of Hungarian Jews by issuing Spanish passports and housing them in buildings under Spanish diplomatic protection. Artist Okuda San Miguel painted this portrait to honor his actions, using his signature bright, kaleidoscopic style to turn the plain apartment block wall into a permanent memorial.
