Ambrai Ghat

The stone steps of Ambrai Ghat descend directly into the dark water of Lake Pichola, framed by the arched gateway of the former custom house. This landing served as the primary entry point for travelers arriving by boat during the eighteenth century. Maharao Pratap Singh commissioned the construction to manage the heavy flow of trade and visitors entering the city from the western banks. Today, the water laps against the same worn masonry where royal officials once inspected cargo and collected heavy grain taxes.
