Lal Ghat Road runs along the eastern edge of Lake Pichola, defined by a continuous wall of weathered, pale-washed buildings that spill right down to the water. In the eighteenth century, this path served as a primary gateway for local residents to reach the lake for daily rituals. The street takes its name from the red stone landing, or ghat, where the royal family and townspeople alike once gathered. The water still laps against the same stone foundations where they tethered their boats.
