Hathipole

Hathipole stands as a broad stone archway marking an entry point into the old walled city of Udaipur. Its name translates to elephant gate, a reference to the height required for royal elephants to pass through carrying riders in ornate howdahs. Maharanas of the Mewar dynasty frequently used this route during processions to reach the city palace. The gate remains an active passage today, with traffic flowing through the same stone frame that once constrained the movement of state elephants and royal entourages.
