Hathipole City Gate Udaipur

Hathipole Gate is defined by a massive, pointed stone archway wide enough for a royal elephant to pass through. This gateway served as the primary northern entrance into the fortified heart of Udaipur. Maharana Fateh Singh ordered its construction in the early twentieth century to manage the growing traffic of the city. Legend claims the heavy wooden doors were fitted with long, sharp iron spikes to deter enemy war elephants from ramming the entrance during an attack.
