Mor Chowk

historic

The Mor Chowk, or Peacock Courtyard, features three glass mosaics of peacocks built directly into the wall niches. Each bird represents a different season: summer, winter, and the monsoon. Maharana Karan Singh commissioned these around sixteen twenty, adding them to the City Palace to create a private, ornate space for the royal family. One of the peacocks contains over five thousand pieces of colored glass, all set into the plaster by local artisans who worked for years to complete the delicate design.
