Badi Pol

historic

Badi Pol serves as the primary entrance to the City Palace complex in Udaipur. Its massive, stone-carved archway stands out for the eight toranas, or decorative arches, embedded into the facade. These commemorate the historical occasions when the Maharana of Mewar was weighed against gold or silver, which was then distributed to the poor. The gates still bear the weathered stone weight of centuries of royal processions, marking the transition from the bustling city streets into the private royal residence.
