Lal Ghat

The stone steps of Lal Ghat descend directly into the murky waters of Lake Pichola, marked by a series of small, carved chhatris that jut out over the surface. This landing served as the primary entrance for the merchant caravans arriving from the Thar Desert in the nineteenth century. One merchant, a wealthy jeweler from Gujarat, famously insisted on building a private staircase here so he could access the temple directly from his boat without navigating the narrow, crowded streets of the city.
