Église de la Mission catholique Espagnole

The Spanish Catholic Mission in Tangier features a high, slender bell tower that stands out against the flat roofs of the Medina. Built in the late nineteenth century, this church served as the spiritual anchor for the city's large Spanish population when Tangier functioned as an international zone. Father José María Lerchundi once directed the mission, using his command of Arabic to negotiate with local authorities and protect the interests of his congregation. It remains an active space for the city’s small Christian community.
