Siedemnastowieczny Zespół Sierocińca

The Zespół Sierocińca in Gdańsk features a distinctive row of tall, narrow gables that face the street, topped with small, decorative stone finials. Built in the late seventeenth century, this brick complex served as a municipal orphanage for children of the city’s citizens. When architect Adam Windisch designed these houses, he added ornate portals featuring carvings of children, intended to comfort those entering for the first time. Later, the buildings transitioned into an elementary school, remaining a focal point of local charitable life.
