Straganiarska Gate

The Straganiarska Gate stands out for its high, red brick facade topped by a distinct, steep copper roof. Built in the early seventeenth century, it served as a water gate, controlling the flow of goods from the Motława River into the city. During the final months of the second world war, artillery fire left the structure a gutted shell. The workers who rebuilt it in the early nineteen fifties deliberately reconstructed the original Dutch Mannerist detailing, including the stone coat of arms.
