Wielki Młyn

The Wielki Młyn in Gdańsk is a massive, steeply pitched gothic building sitting directly over the Radunia Canal. Teutonic Knights built this mill in the middle of the fourteenth century, creating the largest industrial facility in medieval Europe. Its most curious feature remains the eighteen waterwheels that once powered the grain grinding process. During the second siege of Gdańsk in nineteen forty-five, fire destroyed the roof and interior, leaving only the thick stone walls standing until its eventual reconstruction in the nineteen sixties.
