The Steps Bar sits behind a distinctive, curved glass frontage on the corner of Glassford Street. It remains one of the last traditional, working-class pubs in Merchant City, a neighborhood now filled with modern apartments and upscale eateries. During the nineteen seventies, the pub became a regular haunt for shipyard workers and laborers who cleared out after their shifts. The interior has kept its original layout and dark wood paneling, surviving the rapid gentrification that swept through the surrounding blocks over the last forty years.
