Chippewa Square

park garden

Chippewa Square sits framed by its four distinct corners, anchored by the bronze statue of General James Oglethorpe. The founder of the Georgia colony stands tall, his gaze fixed south toward the former Spanish territories he once defended. This space honors the Chippewa battle in the War of eighteen twelve, yet most visitors know the square for the park bench that appeared here in the film Forrest Gump. That bench was a prop, removed as soon as the cameras stopped rolling.
