Conrad Aiken Home

A weather-beaten wooden house sits at the corner of Oglethorpe Avenue and East Broad Street, distinguished by the sharp, steep gable that cuts into the Savannah skyline. The poet Conrad Aiken grew up here, spending his childhood winters climbing the wall and wandering the rooms after his father killed his mother and himself in an upstairs bedroom. Aiken returned to live in the house decades later, claiming the ghost of his father haunted the property until he finally chased the spirit away.
