The Old Sorrel-Weed House Museum & Tours

The Sorrel-Weed House displays a two-story piazza wrapped in white wooden columns, standing at the corner of Bull and Harris Streets. Francis Sorrel, a wealthy shipping merchant, built this mansion in the eighteen thirties after moving to Savannah from Saint-Domingue. He hired Charles Cluskey to combine Greek Revival and Regency architecture for his family and his thriving business. The house stayed in the Sorrel family for decades, eventually gaining a reputation for tragedy involving the suicides of both his wife and a slave.
