The Gryphon tea room occupies the former Scottish Rite Masonic temple, identifiable by the intricate carved oak bookshelves that climb to the vaulted ceilings. Originally built as an apothecary in the eighteen eighties, the room served as the Habersham and Company drug store, complete with mahogany cabinets and stained-glass accents. Dr. Samuel Pugh Hamilton commissioned the building to showcase his medical supplies. Today, students and visitors sit at small tables among these relics, reading or sipping tea beneath the original dark wood rafters.
