The Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Straße one address marks the entrance to a sprawling, utilitarian complex of interconnected buildings originally commissioned to house the barracks of the Imperial and Royal Army. Its most distinct feature is the repetitive, rhythmic arrangement of arched window frames and yellow-tinted facade sections that stretch along the street. When construction finished in the late nineteenth century, these halls held thousands of soldiers and hundreds of horses. Today, the space serves as the primary regional headquarters for the Austrian federal police.
