The Triumphal Arch at Schubertstraße one stands as a hulking mass of stone carved with two very different faces. One side celebrates the marriage of Archduke Leopold to Maria Luisa of Spain, while the other side is draped in mourning for the death of Emperor Francis Stephen, who passed away during those very wedding festivities in seventeen sixty-five. Empress Maria Theresa ordered the local residents to pay for the structure, which forced them to tear down the old medieval city gate to provide the necessary materials.
