Weinstube Zur Kiste

The timber frame of Weinstube Zur Kiste leans out over the narrow alley, held together by dark, weathered beams that date back to the seventeenth century. While most of Stuttgart surrendered to modern construction after the Second World War, this building stayed put. It served as a neighborhood wine tavern for centuries, gathering locals to drink regional Trollinger in rooms heated by iron stoves. During the war, the city authorities decided to preserve it, physically bracing the structure to survive the surrounding ruins.
