Shri Mahalaxmi Mandir

The Shri Mahalaxmi Mandir sits in the heart of Udaipur with a bright yellow facade and a high, pointed shikhara that rises above the surrounding neighborhood. Maharana Shambhu Singh commissioned this temple in the nineteenth century to house a black stone image of the goddess Lakshmi. While other shrines in the city focus on royal ancestors or larger deities, this space centers on the goddess of wealth. Local merchants and residents arrive here daily to offer prayers before opening their shops and starting business.
