Weißenburger Platz

The glass fountain at the center of Weißenburger Platz shoots water from a tall, ornate stone pedestal topped by a bronze figure of a fish-wife. Designed in eighteen eighty-six by Theodor Fischer, this square provided a focal point for the working-class families moving into the Haidhausen neighborhood during Munich's industrial expansion. While many city squares served as marketplaces, local residents fought successfully to keep this space for quiet leisure, preserving the fountain as their shared garden rather than a commercial hub.
