Museumsbrücke

The Museumsbrücke features a wide, single arch of red sandstone that bridges the Pegnitz River. This stone span replaced a series of wooden structures that frequently washed away during floods or burned during the city's frequent fires. In sixteen ninety-eight, the city council commissioned master builder Johann Trost to erect this permanent crossing. When the final stone was laid, workers famously buried a collection of contemporary coins and a small scroll beneath the keystone to mark the investment in durable public infrastructure.
