Altes Rathaus

The Altes Rathaus features a long, sand-colored stone facade dominated by a massive, tiered arched entrance. It served as the administrative heart of Nuremberg for centuries, holding the chambers where city councilors debated the laws of the Holy Roman Empire. During the final months of the second world war, the interior collapsed under heavy bombing, leaving behind little but these outer walls. Workers spent years painstakingly clearing the rubble and rebuilding the structure to house the city archives and offices once again.
