Schöner Brunnen

historic

The Schöner Brunnen rises as a forty-foot stone spire decorated with forty colorful figures, looking more like a cathedral pinnacle set directly on the pavement. Master mason Heinrich Beheim built this fountain in the late fourteenth century to serve the city’s water needs. The most famous feature is the brass ring embedded in the iron fence. Local legend says that spinning the ring brings good luck, a superstition that has worn the metal smooth over hundreds of years of hopeful visitors.
