Weißgerbergasse

The Weißgerbergasse contains the highest concentration of preserved half-timbered houses in Nuremberg. These structures survived the air raids of nineteen forty-five that leveled much of the medieval city center. Tanners once occupied this street, using the nearby Pegnitz River to process hides in the small workshops on the ground floors. Their living quarters sat above the work areas, characterized by colorful beams and carved wooden details. One house bears the mark of a master craftsman, dated sixteen ninety-one, etched into the timber frame.
