Kreuzigungshof

The Kreuzigungshof features a small, stone relief of the crucifixion embedded directly into the wall of a corner building. This courtyard served as the final station of a medieval Way of the Cross that began at the Saint Maurice Chapel. In fifteen hundred and six, the artist Adam Kraft carved the scene to guide local pilgrims through the Passion narrative. During the Second World War, citizens removed the sculpture and hid it underground, saving the original stone from the firestorms that leveled the neighborhood.
