Teufelsbrünnlein

The Teufelsbrünnlein features a bronze devil figure perched atop a stone pillar, clutching a pitcher that pours water into a small basin. Created by sculptor Philipp Kittler in nineteen oh nine, it replaced an older fountain that had fallen into disrepair. Legend claims the devil was cast in bronze to protect the city from the influence of the nearby church. During the Second World War, the sculpture vanished, only to reappear years later in a scrap metal collection, eventually returning to its pedestal.
