Beim Tiergärtnertor

other

The square known as Beim Tiergärtnertor sits beneath the looming sandstone walls of the Nuremberg Castle. Its most distinct feature is the half-timbered house on the corner, where the upper floors jut out significantly over the stone foundation. In the early sixteenth century, the artist Albrecht Dürer bought this building and lived here for nearly twenty years. He worked in his studio upstairs while the city authorities maintained the gate tower right outside his window, monitoring travelers entering from the north.
