St. Egidien

St. Egidien features a distinct facade of two unequal towers capped with tall, copper-sheathed spires that dominate the northeast corner of the old city. This church serves as the only Baroque sanctuary in Nuremberg, rising from the ashes of a twelfth-century monastery. In sixteen ninety-six, a fire destroyed the original structure, leaving behind only the foundation. Architects rebuilt it with a focus on internal light and grand scale, replacing medieval stone with the opulent, flowing lines favored by the wealthy merchant families.
