The White Tower rises as a square, white-stone gatehouse near the entrance to the Nuremberg old town. Originally built as part of the city wall in the thirteenth century, it served as a defensive fortification protecting the western approach. Today, the structure persists as a scarred fragment of the medieval defenses, standing isolated from the walls that once connected to its sides.
