The Grand Hotel, now CaixaForum, rises from the corner of the Plaza Weyler with a facade of elaborate white stone carving and cast iron balconies. When it opened in nineteen oh three, it was the first luxury hotel in Palma, designed by Lluis Domenech i Montaner to attract wealthy travelers arriving by steamship. The building features an intricate mix of modernisme style and local craft. A disgruntled porter once famously refused to carry luggage for guests he deemed insufficiently elegant, prioritizing the hotel's reputation over tips.
