Royal Palace of La Almudaina

The Royal Palace of La Almudaina sits directly facing the harbor, distinguished by the massive, crenelated stone walls and the high, arched windows of the Gothic hall. Originally built as a Muslim fortress for the local governors, King James the Second of Mallorca turned it into a royal residence in the early fourteenth century. He insisted on incorporating Islamic arches alongside his new Christian chapel, forcing a strange architectural marriage that still defines the structure today.
