Ses Voltes

The stone arches of Ses Voltes stretch along the base of the Palma Cathedral like a massive, open-air gallery. These high, barrel-vaulted bays once housed workshops and stables tucked directly into the defensive city walls. In the mid-nineteen seventies, the space was slated for demolition to make way for a modern roadway. A group of local activists and architects fought the plan for years, convinced the structure held the city's maritime history within its masonry, until the project was finally canceled.
