Es Drac de na Coca

landmark

The glass display case on the street holds a wooden dragon with a long, articulated tail and an open, menacing jaw. Local legend describes this beast terrorizing Palma during the late eighteenth century, snatching children from the narrow streets at night. Captain Bartomeu Coch eventually confronted the creature near the cathedral and killed it with his sword. He presented the dragon to his beloved, and the creature remains here as a reminder of the night the city felt safe again.
