The Iglesia de Santa Eulalia wears a massive, fortress-like stone facade with a high bell tower that rises above the surrounding neighborhood of Palma. It is the oldest parish church in the city, dating back to the thirteenth century, shortly after King James the First conquered the island. Centuries ago, the young King James the Second was crowned here. When he received his crown, he reportedly had to contend with the competing demands of his powerful brother, the King of Majorca.
