The Museum of Mallorca occupies the Casa de la Gran Cristiana, a sixteenth century palace defined by its ornate, central courtyard and the rhythmic succession of stone arches. This building shelters a collection spanning the island’s history from prehistory through the Islamic period and the Christian conquest. When workers restored the cellar in the nineteen seventies, they discovered a hidden ritual mikvah used by the local Jewish community before their forced conversion or expulsion at the end of the fifteenth century.
