The Parc de la Mar sits between the towering stone wall of the Palma Cathedral and the Mediterranean Sea. Before nineteen seventy-two, the waves crashed directly against the base of the cathedral's foundation. Engineers built a massive saltwater lake here to act as a barrier, reclaimed from the sea after a highway project redirected the coastline. Joan Miro donated a vibrant ceramic mural that overlooks the water, marking the park as a space where modern art meets centuries of island history.
